Polish currency weakened slightly on Tuesday against morning levels and the EUR/PLN exchange rate stands at around 4.311. On Tuesday, a group of MPs filed a motion in the lower house of parliament (Sejm) to bring Poland's central bank NBP governor Adam Glapinski before the State Tribunal on charges of violating the Polish Constitution and laws.
On Monday, the EUR/PLN exchange rate was around 4.307 at the end of the trading session. On Tuesday morning, one euro costed around PLN 4.308.
In the motion to bring Glapinski before the State Tribunal, it is alleged that he has committed breaches of the Polish Constitution and laws in connection with his position or within the scope of his office.
According to PKO BP chief economist Piotr Bujak, the proposal to bring the NBP governor before the State Tribunal has no clear bearing on the outlook for monetary policy in Poland.
He indicated that the situation may, however, slightly increase uncertainty about the Monetary Policy Council's future actions.
