PSO wants to have over 6 mln homes within reach of its FTTH network in long term
In the long term, Poland's largest exclusively wholesale operator of access to fibre optic internet Polski Swiatlowod Otwarty (PSO) wants to have 6 million homes within the reach of its FTTH (fibre to the home) network, the company's CEO Ignacio Irurita announced at a press briefing. The total value of ongoing investments to achieve this goal currently stands at around PLN 1.3 billion (EUR 309.8 mln).
"(...) Our priority for the near term is also the effective commercialisation of the network in cooperation with our wholesale partners. We also want to expand the number of operators on PSO's open access broadband network," CEO Irurita said.
He added that PSO will analyse the market for acquisitions of local companies and when a good opportunity arises, it will carry out M&A.
PSO, during its two-year operation, through network expansion and acquisitions, has increased the reach of its network by more than 370,000 households to over 4.1 million (of which 900,000 are fibre-optic), investing over PLN 780 million (EUR 185.9 mln) during this time.
This figure includes investments in the construction of FTTH infrastructure - a total of 226,000 households and 146,000 households acquired through acquisitions of regional companies.
Polski Swiatlowod Otwarty also carried out upgrades of HFC networks to the FTTH standard in 423,000 households in this period.
PSO infrastructure is available in 16 provinces, 227 municipalities and 280 cities in Poland.
