Poland's c. bank share of gold in FX reserves at 22.4 pct or 515.5 tonnes
The share of gold in the foreign exchange reserves of Poland's central bank NBP currently stands at 22.4 percent, amounting to 515.5 tonnes, Poland's central bank NBP wrote in a statement.
"At the end of May 2025, Poland's central bank NBP had accumulated 515.5 tonnes of gold, worth USD 54.6 billion. This means that the precious metal accounts for 22.4 percent of the foreign exchange reserves managed by the NBP. Thus, the NBP management's strategy of increasing the share of gold to 20 percent of total reserves has been implemented," the statement said.
According to the NBP, in terms of gold reserves, the NBP has overtaken the European Central Bank (which holds 506.5 tonnes) and currently ranks 12th in the world among central banks with the largest reserves of this precious metal.
"Poland has been one of the world's leading gold buyers for several years. Since the beginning of 2018, the NBP has purchased a total of 412.5 tonnes of gold, including 89.5 tonnes in 2024 and 67.2 tonnes in the first five months of 2025," the statement said.
The NBP indicated that at the end of May 2025, the total value of the NBP's official reserve assets amounted to USD 243.5 billion.
