Poland's climate ministry has EUR 640 mln agreement with state development bank for hydrogen investments

Poland's Ministry of Climate and Environment (MKiS) has entered into an agreement with Polish state development bank BGK, EU payments operator, for the implementation of investments in hydrogen technologies and the production, storage and transport of hydrogen, BGK said. The support will be non-refundable and the budget for the investment is EUR 640 million, which will come from EU funds under the national recovery plan KPO.

"Among other things, the planned investments are designed to support Polish industry in meeting the targets of the revised Renewable Energy Directive (RED III)," BGK said in the statement.

"In the case of hydrogen, they require a share of at least 42 percent renewable hydrogen in the industrial sector in 2030 (60 percent in 2035). In the transport sector, in 2030, the share of advanced biofuels and non-biological renewable fuels - which include renewable hydrogen - in final consumption should reach 5.5 percent, including a minimum of 1 percent renewable fuels," it added.

The maximum support per MW of capacity of the RFNBO hydrogen plant is approximately EUR 2 million. The subsidy will cover the hydrogen production installations as well as the accompanying infrastructure (including the RES source). The minimum capacity of the installation is 20 MW.

The call for applications under the competition procedure is planned for December 2024. The competition documentation developed by BGK experts will go to business consultations today.

The conclusion of agreements with the final recipients of the support is planned by the end of June 2025.
