Poland's first nuclear power plant SPV PEJ applies for permit for 2nd stage of preparatory work
Poland's 100-percent state-owned nuclear power SPV PEJ has submitted an application to the Pomeranian region governor for a permit to carry out the second stage of preparatory work, PEJ said in a press release. It added that the first stage of preparatory work will begin in the autumn.
"PEJ has submitted an application to the governor of the Pomeranian region for a permit to carry out the second stage of preparatory work," PEJ announced in the press release.
"In addition to continuing selected activities from the first stage, for which PEJ has obtained a permit on August 29, 2025, the scope of work also includes, among other things, the construction of technical infrastructure for the construction," it added.
The investor and future operator of Poland's first nuclear power plant emphasised that this is a continuation of activities leading up to the most important moment in the project's implementation, namely the pouring of the first nuclear concrete.
"The first stage of preparatory work will start in the autumn. We are committed to maintaining an ambitious investment schedule, which is why we have already submitted an application for a permit for the second stage," said PEJ's CEO Marek Woszczyk, quoted in the press release.
Woszczyk recently informed PAP that PEJ expects to submit a construction permit application to the nuclear regulatory authority, the National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA), in 2026.
He added that the company hopes to obtain the permit in time to pour concrete for the first of three reactors in 2028.
The schedule envisages, among other things, the start of operation of the first unit in 2036.
