UPDATE: Hackers target Big Cheese Studio gaming, demanding PLN 100k in cryptocurrency

Hackers claim to have accessed the listed video games developer Big Cheese Studio systems, including game codes and employee data, and they are demanding PLN 100,000 (EUR 23,700) in cryptocurrency in order for data to remain undisclosed, according to information and screenshots shared by X platform users. In response to PAP Biznes question, the company confirmed the attack, while stressing that game codes have not been leaked and that they have been properly secured.

In another release sent to PAP Biznes, Big Cheese's management said that the data had been fully secured.

"The hackers had only deleted the website. The Cooking Simulator 1 and Cooking Simulator 2 codes have not leaked," the board stressed.

"They are secured offline. In the opinion of the board, this was not a major hacking intrusion, the board is working with lawyers and service providers," it added.

Big Cheese Studio also told PAP Biznes that the attack happened around 5 am local time and that as of 6:30 am, the first remedial actions were taken.

"The company assures that the data in the form of the repository and the data of the Cooking 2 and Cooking 1 projects have not been lost," it wrote.

"The data of the other projects has also not been affected. Work is currently underway to restore the site," Big Cheese added.

The hackers have claimed that they had the code for Cooking Simulator 2, as it is the most important project the company is working on. They have warned that the scale of the intrusion is large, and the consequences could be severe.

Personal data breaches are subject to the provisions of the RODO, which can result in a financial penalty of up to EUR 20 million or 4 percent of a companies' annual revenue.

The hackers converted the PLN 100,000 (EUR 23,700) in amount into both roubles and the cryptocurrency XMR.

"Any delay will increase the risk of further exploitation of the stolen data and exacerbate potential loss and damage. The cryptocurrency wallet address will be monitored for the next 5 working days," the hackers wrote.

"If the amount stated above is not paid, the stolen data will be made public and the game's source code, as well as customer, employee and investor data, will be sold or shared with third parties. All data, including personal data, will be irreversibly exposed," they added.
