Research into locations for nuclear power plant takes around 4 years, says industry minister
There are two preferred locations for the second nuclear power plant in Poland: Konin and Belchatow; geological studies are currently underway, said industry minister Marzena Czarnecka in a video posted by the ministry on X. She added that such studies typically take about four years.
"There are two preferred locations, which are, of course, Konin and Bełchatów. We are currently conducting detailed geological studies," said Czarnecka.
"Such research takes time, as it typically lasts about four years. These studies have already been prepared, because we are in the middle of the process, not at the end, but once we make a detailed decision, after determining all safety elements, we will inform the public," she added.
On Wednesday, PGE CEO Dariusz Marzec announced that the initial results of geological and environmental analyses indicate that the site in Bełchatów may meet the stringent criteria required for nuclear energy investments.
According to Marzec, this paves the way for the next stages: a comprehensive environmental and location research programme in accordance with national and international legal requirements.
